U.S. Senate Candidates Debate at Leisure World

Democratic U.S. Senate candidates Angela Alsobrooks and David Trone faced each other in a debate held by the Democratic Club on March 28. More than 200 people attended in person and another 200 on Zoom. The debate was moderated by MoCo360’s Lou Peck and Washington Post reporter Erin Cox.

Both candidates had similar positions on many issues. They compared endorsements with Trone being backed by Democratic Leader Jeffries, and Alsobrooks backed by Governor Moore, Senator Van Hollen and Congressman Raskin.

In the Senate Alsobrooks said she would emphasize the Women’s Health Protection Act, and protecting voting rights including eliminating the filibuster. Trone said he would emphasize drug abuse and suicide.

When asked how they would defeat potential Republican nominee Larry Hogan Alsobrooks said she would go after Hogan’s anti-choice and anti-worker record. Trone said he would nationalize the race on unpopular Republican positions, and that he had the resources for the campaign.
